Wesley Granberg-Michaelson (Author)

In the late 1960s and early 1970s Granberg-Michaelson served for eight years on the staff of U.S. Senator Mark O. Hatfield of Oregon. During that time, he was a member of Church of the Saviour in Washington, D.C., which molded much of his understanding of how commitment, spiritual growth, small groups, and social witness shape the life of the local congregation. From 1976 to 1980 he served as managing editor for Sojourners. Subsequently he moved to Montana to establish and serve as president of the New Creation Institute, working on issues of Christian responsibility for the environment as well as the church’s role in healing and health. Granberg-Michaelson was installed as general secretary of the Reformed Church in America in 1994. From 1988 to 1994 he served on the staff of the World Council of Churches (WCC) in Geneva, Switzerland, as the director of the Church and Society division. During his service as general secretary for the Reformed Church in America over the past decade, he has continued his ecumenical commitments through chairing the Steering Committee of Christian Churches Together in the U.S.A., being a member of the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches, and serving as chair of the board for Call to Renewal. Granberg-Michaelson is the author of four books and numerous magazine articles, which have appeared in publications such as Perspectives, Sojourners, Christianity Today, The Christian Century, nd Ecumenical Review. Granberg-Michaelson and his wife, Karin live in Michigan and have two children, Jonkrister and Karis.
