M. Basil Pennington (1931-2005) was a Trappist of St. Joseph’s Abbey, Spencer, MA. He was a friend of Thomas Merton, co-founder of the Centering Prayer movement, and received an unprecedented invitation to Mount Athos, later darshan from Mother Teresa and Bede Griffiths.
